A watercolor painting on paper of a view from a balcony by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997). The painting depicts a pair of open balcony doors overlooking a town. The work is signed to the lower right in graphite. Mounted on white foam board and wrapped in acetate.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
