A watercolor painting on paper of an abstract still life by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1954. The painting depicts a still life with fruit in a bowl in front of a blue and white background. The painting is signed and dated to the lower right. Presented in white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
