Vintage Hand Knotted Baluch Carpet Runner Rug

Item Details

A vintage hand knotted Baluch carpet runner. The central section consists of alternating, ornate kochak medallions with diamond forms, and crenellated designs which create a lattice pattern worked in navy blue, two shades of dark red, and light brown undyed wool. The edges of the diamonds and some of the designs are emphasized using a different, overhand weaving technique that creates dimension. It has a compound border in the same palette, with an added orange accent. The edges of the runner utilized several different weaving techniques including soumak and kilim patterns. There is a short wool fringe of undyed wool at each end. unmarked.
