A pastel drawing on paper portrait of a woman by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1925. This bust portrait features a three-quarter view of a woman with flowers in her hair. The drawing is signed with the artist’s initials and dated to the lower right. A photographic print of a sketched self-portrait is attached to the verso. The work is presented under white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
