A watercolor and ink painting on paper titled Bridge by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1958. This work features a bridge traversing a stream across the center of the image with lush foliage in the distance and a sandy shore to the foreground. It is rendered in loose brushstrokes overlaid with energetic delineations in both ink and graphite. It is signed and dated in ink to the lower right. Presented under off-white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
