An original watercolor painting on paper by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997). The painting depicts an outrigger canoe sitting on a beach between two palm trees under a bright blue sky. It is rendered in jagged line work with flat areas of bright color. It is signed in graphite to the lower right. Presented in white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
