Edgar Yaeger Pastel Drawing on Paper of Fish and Anchor

An original pastel drawing on paper of fish and an anchor by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997). The drawing is a stylized depiction of two fish swimming near a large fishhook with a broken line, in front of a fishing net. It is signed in ink to the lower right. Presented in white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
