Edgar Yaeger Original Graphite and Pastel Sketch on Paper

An original graphite and pastel sketch by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1938. This sketch depicts a cubist style composition of a table still-life table and is rendered with graphite and blue and brown pastel. It is signed and dated in graphite to the lower right. This work is presented in white matting and wrapped in acetate. The composition is accompanied by an exhibition brochure about the artist from the Cincinnati Art Galleries.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
