An original 1982 oil painting with oil pastel on panel by listed Australian American artist Edgar Hatten (1929 – 1990), titled Pot of Flowers. The image depicts a dark, vague rendering of hydrangeas arranged in a short, squat vessel, executed in simple monochromatic geometric shapes. The drawing is unframed, matted in white and wrapped in acetate. It is signed to the verso of the actual drawing, with provenance from Cincinnati Art Galleries, behind the piece’s mounting. Hatten is known for painting abstract still-lifes and landscapes, integrating mood, concept, visual elements, and drama. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He was a teacher at Swinbourne College in Australia, and in California at East Los Angeles College and Citrus College.
