An original mid-20th century oil painting on panel by well-listed American artist Paul Chidlaw (1900 – 1989), titled Reflections. The painting depicts a textured abstract composition painted in heavy impasto with a carefully chosen rainbow of colors. It is unsigned and is presented in a wooden frame with cast surface embellishments, seamless corners, and gold tone finish. A hanging wire and a gallery tag from Miller Galleries in Cincinnati are attached to the verso. Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed in the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
