A gouache painting with graphite underdrawing on paper The Scarab Clubby well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (Michigan 1904-1997), created in 1936. Depicted is a blue scarab beetle with the phrase ‘The Scarab Club’ encircling it. This painting depicts a logo design for The Scarab Club, an organization founded by artists in Detroit in 1907, dedicated to the visual, auditory and literary arts. It is signed and dated in graphite to the lower right. Presented in white matting and wrapped in acetate. The Scarab Club, an organization founded by artists in Detroit in 1907, dedicated to the visual, auditory and literary arts. Edgar Yaeger joined the club during the 1920s.

Yaeger is known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
