Hand Knotted Shahsavan Area Rug
Item Details
A hand knotted area rug attributed to weavers of Shahsavan. It features a large central pendant medallion with a stepped diamond form in indigo blue, having a mir-boteh pattern in bright colors of pale blue, white, taupe, turquoise and ruby red. The medallion sits on a patterned, crenellated lozenge having a ruby and ivory palette in a paneled, branched motif. The corner spandrels echo the mir-boteh motif in bright colors on a white field. The rug has a compound border in floral and foliate elements in the medallion colors, with a wide primary border of large flower blossoms and rectilinear vines on an indigo field. It has a decorative kilim skirt, overcast edges and cropped cotton fringe to each end, Unmarked.
