Antique Red Breasted Merganser Drake and Hen Duck Decoys
Item Details
A pair of antique red breasted merganser duck decoys. Featured are two hand-carved decoys comprised of wood with narrow, elongated heads and bodies. The drake has a dark brown and black finish all over with white highlights and a red accent to its breast. The hen boasts a similar dark brown to black painted body with a cream-tone breast and reddish brown head with drilled holes for eyes. The female also features some residual metal hardware to its front and underside where weights and rigging where once present. The ducks are marked with a carved ‘S’ beneath their tails as well as a series of handwritten numbers.
Condition
- wood is beginning to separate in places; paint is patinaed and scuffed throughout; scratches and nicks throughout; one beak has broken off; condition consistent with being used for outdoor hunting practice.
