An oil painting on canvas landscape by Dorthy Day Tufts (Massachusettes, 1898-1980). Depicted in an impressionist style landscape with barren trees and green foliage. In the distance, a mountainous region is depicted under cloudy blue skies. To the stretcher bar verso is the inscription ‘R. Deland’. This piece is signed to the lower right and is presented in a painted wooden frame without glass.
Tufts is known for her landscapes, still lives, and portraits of family and friends. In 1919, Tufts briefly attended the Yale Art School but later left due to personal injury. Tufts illustrated the 1935 cookbook The Road to Good Food, published to benefit the Franklin County Public Hospital. Today, much of her work can be found in private collections.
