Ink Error Federal Reserve Notes

A group of Federal Reserve notes. This grouping contains a 1977 five-dollar note, a 1981 ten-dollar note, and a 1981-A ten-dollar note. All of these notes have small to large ink blotches or mismarks on them that occurred due to a printing plate error that occurred while the notes were being printed. The five-dollar note has a pair of raindrop shaped blotches on the left side of the note as well as diagonal color line that goes through the denomination text, the 1961-A note has an ink blotch in the shape of a reverse handprint on the top left area of the note, and the 1961 note has a very large blotch that is covering the majority of the portrait of Alexander Hamilton.
Condition
- ink blotches and mismarking present on all pieces from printing plate error during minting; light wear to notes consistent with use and circulation.
