1868 Grant and Colfex Ferrotype Presidential Campaign Medallion

A Grant and Colfax ferrotype presidential campaign medallion dated 1868. This is a ‘doughnut’ style campaign button from 1868 for the republican candidates, Ulysses S. Grant and his running mate Schuyler Colfax. This was the first election to be held after the end of the Civil War during the ‘Reconstruction’ period. One side of this medallion pictures Grant and the other side features Colfax. Ferrotype photos printed on tin were popular during 1850’s thru the 1920’s.
