A hand-knotted Kazak Bordjalou prayer rug. This Caucasian wool rug features an allover field of madder red with a mihrab area geometrically outlined in indigo. Its field is populated with a pair of large diamond medallions, four octagonal medallions, as well as guls, S-hooks, an eight-pointed star, and other symbolic shapes; additionally, there is a single, small human shape in the right center of the field. Amid a universal palette of madder red, indigo, cerulean, ivory, and black, the rug has compound borders, including four checkered borders and mirrored, geometric reciprocal twin primary borders. The rug has short blue fringe at one end with undyed natural wool warp fringe to the other, and is unmarked.
