Rococo Style Hinged-Lid Box With Vernis Martin Decoration
Item Details
A Rococo style hinged-lid box with Vernis Martin decoration. Depicted on the chest is a woman wearing a laurel crown seated within a wooded area. Next to her is a young man holding something in his hand. Sitting next to them is a dog and lamp to the left and right of the composition. The piece is framed by a carved floral frame with a cherubic face. This piece opens with two hinges to the back and features and fabric interior lining. A small brass key hole is present to the front of the piece. Two holes are present to the understand possibly for a stand.
Condition
- minor wear to exterior of case; scratches to the bottom of the case; numerous small areas of loss to the composition of painting; stains are present to the interior lining.
