1848 Solomon Hausman Pennsylvania Three Color Jacquard Coverlet

Item Details

An antique jacquard coverlet. This piece features a center medallion of two overlapping four-point stars on a feathered background that expands out to several fields of floral and foliad patterns in oblong octagonal configurations. The entire coverlet is colored in alternating horizontal color lines of bright red, black and gold which also repeat on the outer fringe perimeter. The maker’s marks are present on a pair of corner block on the bottom of the piece labeling it as having been made in 1848 by Solomon Hausman in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania marking this piece towards the end of the weaver’s career.

Condition

- light wear to the fringe edging; mild staining and discoloration consistent with age and light use.
