An original watercolor painting by the listed American artist Mary Ascher (1900-1988) titled The Elewento. Colorful brushwork dominates this dynamic non-objective watercolor painting. The work is initialed ‘M.A.G.’ with Japanese characters below it to the lower right and is presented unframed with a white mat. Originally from Leeds, England, Ascher eventually moved to New York where she studied at the Art Students League and Hunter College. Ascher was awarded the International Women’s Year Awards in 1975 and was the President of the American Society of Contemporary Artists from 1973 to 1975.
Condition
Signs of discoloration to the mat. There is a crease in the mat along the top right.
