A terra cotta bust sculpture from the early 20th century by the Italian artist Fernand Cian, also known as Fernando Ciancianaini (c.1886-1954). A young woman with styled curly hair gently turns her had to one side in this highly realistic terra cotta sculpture. The piece is hand signed ito the back of the neck ‘Fernand Cian’ and ‘Paris’. The bust is displayed on a marble pedestal base. Originally from Italy, Cian moved to Paris where he worked with Laporte-Blairsy and was an exhibitor at the Salon des Artistes Français during the early 20th century. Cian became known for his bust sculptures of children fashioned to mimic the 18th-century French styles.
