A gouache painting on board by listed artist Stan Galli (1912-2009). This 1965 illustration was made for “Golden Evenings” in McCall’s magazine. It depicts three shows three teenagers sitting on porch swing with two younger boys playing on the porch rails. It is signed in the bottom right corner ‘Stan Galli’ It is marked in pencil “McCall’s Magazine” below image, under mat and on verso of board “McCalls rough sketch’ is written in pencil. Golden Evenings of Summer was a 1971 novel by Will Stanton from McCall Publishing Company. In 1973 it became a Disney film titled Charley and the Angel. This painting was owned by the Galli family for over fifty years. It is presented matted, under glass, in a black wooden frame. This painting comes with a framed copy of McCall’s magazine featuring Galli’s illustration.
Stanley Galli was a prolific Californian illustrator whose work appeared in magazine stories and ads between the 1940s and 1970s. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Society of Illustrators in New York in 1981 adding him to a list of honorees including Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, and Howard Pyle.
