Paul Cornoyer 20th Century Impressionist Oil Painting in Albert Milch Frame

Item Details

An original early 20th century oil on board by listed artist Paul Cornoyer (American, 1864-1923). This Impressionist painting depicts a white house and red outbuilding skillfully created with alternating light and rich shadows from the nearby trees overlooking a duck pond. This serene setting was likely found in Gloucester, Massachusetts where the artist lived and found inspiration for many paintings at the time. Piece is signed to the lower left. Presented under glass in a gilded, wooden frame with floral accents and hanging wire to verso. Appears to be housed in what is likely to be the original Albert Milch Arts & Crafts frame which also dates to the early 1900s. Embossed tag to the back of the frame reads, ‘Albert Milch Manufacturer High Grade Picture Frames’ with a New York address.

Paul Cornoyer was born in St Louis, Missouri where he studied at the School of Fine Arts in 1881, working in the Barbizon style of painting, first exhibited in 1887. Later he went to Paris to study at the Academie Julien with French Masters Benjamin Constant, Jules LeFebvre and Louis Blanc into the late 1800s. He taught in New York and is best known for his New York City, urban and park scenes.
