A gouache painting on board by listed artist Stan Galli (1912-2009). This illustration was produced for Jetta Carleton’s story ‘Moonflower Vine’ in ’McCall’s’ magazine. It depicts a couple walking across a meadow while a girl runs behind them. It is signed ‘Stanley W. Galli’ and ‘Study for McCalls Magazine illus.’ in the bottom right corner of the image. Also includes a copy of ’McCall’s’ magazine from February 1963, featuring Galli’s artwork. This original painting was in the Galli family’s collection for over fifty years. Stanley Galli was a prolific Californian illustrator whose work appeared in magazine stories and advertisements from the 1940s to the 1970s. In 1981, he was inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Frame adding him to a list of members including Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, and Howard Pyle.
