Katsushika Hokusai Original Woodblock "The Blind Men and Elephant"

An original woodblock print on paper from the Hokusai Manga (Hokusai Sketchbooks) series of books, published between 1814 and 1875, by Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾 北斎, 1760-1849) titled The Blind Men and Elephant (盲人と象 Mōjin to zō). This diptych print depicts the comedy of a blind man trying to figure out what an elephant looks like by touching the animal. The story is from an ancient Japanese proverb and is surrounded by black characters on each side. Mounted under a single layer of white matting, the print is mounted under glass in a stained wood frame. Hanging wire and a descriptive decal are present to verso of the frame. Hokusai was a master draftsman, printed and painter.
