Mid-19th Century Chinese Wucai Vase

Item Details

A mid-19th-century Chinese wucai five color vase. The body of the vase features finely painted five-clawed dragons within roundels surrounded by stylized clouds. Butterflies, peonies, and bats, symbols of good fortune, surround each of the dragon roundels. The shoulder of the vase is embellished with four sculptural young boys. This vase appears to have been a collaborative of two artists, one decorating the base body, and the other decorating the young boys. The underside of the vase has a hand-drawn six-character Qianlong reign mark, however, the vase likely dates from the mid-19th century.
