19th Century Unfired Krishnanagar Clay Dolls

A collection of sixteen 19th century Indian, un-fired Krishnanagar clay doll servant figures. This collection features life-like peasants in the dress of their occupations. This art form was started by King Raja Krishna Chandra Ray, during his reign from 1710-1783, and fell out of existence after India’s independence in 1947. Condition

- wear is present all over to both figures and clothing; includes breaks, tears and other age related wear. Any wear present is to be considered both normal and expected from age and prior use.
