Pair of Ricardo Morin Artist Proof 3-D Digital Paintings on Paper from "Invocation Series"

Item Details

A pair of 3-D digital paintings on watercolor paper created by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954), from his Invocation Series. Executed in 2004, these two works are two-dimensional printed images that were created with Maya and other compositing software, as indicated to the versos. One is titled Invocation Series #2 and features a toilet seat with a picture of George W. Bush’s surprised face emblazoned on the lid. Repetitively printed in rows across the entire composition are the names of religions, religious figures, spiritual terms, and modern brand names in red, white, and blue against a black background. The other work is titled _Invocation Series #13’ and features the silhouetted profile of a toilet filled with a gradating spectrum of colors. This work also includes religions, religious figures, spiritual terms, and modern brand names repetitively printed in red, white, and blue against a black background. Both works are marked ‘Artist Proof’ to the lower left margins; each is signed and dated both by hand and in plate. Both works have handwriting to the versos that include dedications signed by the artist, information about the work, and the artist’s contact information. The prints remain unframed and are presented in a portfolio case.

Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
