Ink Wash
An ink and sepia drawing on paper titled Velazquez by listed American artist Ricardo Morin (Venezuela, b. 1954), created in 1974. Depicted is the bust-length portrait of a woman. She highly resembles the old woman in the Spanish Baroque painting An Old Woman Cooking Eggs by Diego Velazquez (Spanish, 1599-1660). The work is signed and dated to the lower left. Presented as a loose paper with a descriptive paper from the artist’s website.
Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. at the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
