A recreation oil on canvas painting after The Checkmate by Francesco Beda (Italian, 1840-1900). The painting depicts a young couple playing chess while a young woman looks on. The viewer’s eye is drawn through the arch to the rooms beyond creating a unique depth perspective. The details of the room and the decor are exquisite. Beda was an Italian artist that had a marked influence from Meissonier and completed his training at the Venice Academy. The painting was recreated by an artist of the Heritage House Galleries. The Recreation papers are included with the painting as well as original paperwork.
