A set of Whiting Mfg. Co. and Gorham sterling silver flatware in the Madam Jumel pattern. The set of flatware features handles with raised laurel swags tied with bows. Some of the handles are monogrammed with the letter M, some monogrammed with the letter H, and some with no monogram. This set includes six knives with silver plated blades, six dinner forks, six salad forks, two rounded spoons, four sizes of pointed spoons including two large, two medium, twelve small, and three extra-small. There is also one flat handle butter spreader, a ladle and a large serving spoon. The set features the Whiting Mfg. Co. maker’s mark and ‘Sterling’ mark. Two forks and a soup spoon are marked for the Gorham Manufacturing Company, who produced the same pattern. Some pieces are additionally marked ‘Pat. 1900’ or with an M. The set comes with a flatware storage chest, which is lined with blue felt. The total approximate weight exclusive of the knives with silver plate blades is 34.04 ozt.
