Ricardo Morin Mixed Media Drawing "Triangulation VI"
Item Details
Charcoal on paper
An unframed mixed media drawing on paper titled Triangulation VI by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954), dated 2008. Comprised of charcoal, sanguine, white-out, and Sumi ink on paper, this non-objective abstract work features a combination of geometric shapes, curving lines, and smeared sanguine and black charcoal. A large rectangle and scalene triangle outlined in black stretch across the entire drawing. The large geometric shapes are juxtaposed with a chaotic jumble of curving lines and squiggles, many of which are smudged with sanguine or black charcoal. No signature, title, or date was found on the work; the drawing remains unframed and unmounted.
Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. at the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
