Ricardo Morin Mixed Media Drawing "Triangulation V"
Item Details
Charcoal on paper
An unframed mixed media drawing on paper titled Triangulation V by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954), dated 2006. Comprised of charcoal, sanguine, white-out, and Sumi ink on paper, this non-objective abstract work features a combination of geometric shapes, curving lines, and smeared sanguine and black charcoal. A large rectangle and triangle outlined in black span the entire drawing. The large geometric shapes are juxtaposed with a chaotic jumble of sweeping black lines and squiggles, many of which are highlighted with white-out or shaded with smears of sanguine and charcoal. The work is signed and dated in graphite to the lower right; the drawing remains unframed and unmounted.
Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
