Antique Stock Certificates

Item Details

A collection of antique stock certificates. The majority of this collection is comprised of sequentially numbered Granville Gold Company stocks issued to a W.M. Brandreth in 1879. Also included in this collection is a certificate for 100 shares of the Copper Knob Mining Company issued to a J.E. Mulford in 1880 and a certificate for 100 shares of the Holyoke Mining Company issued to a C.B. Caldwell in 1887.

These stock certificates have possible historic connections. The W.M. Brandreth on the Granville Gold Company stocks may refer to a relation of Benjamin Brandreth, ‘Father of Mass Marketing,’ who was instrumental in developing the Copper Knob Mining Company. The J.E. Mulford on the Copper Knob Mining Company certificate may be of relation to an Edwin H. Mulford, listed as the secretary of the Granville Gold Company. It is also listed that J.E. Mulford’s signing of the certificate was done in the presence of W.M. Brandreth.
