An antique original watercolor painting on textured paper by well-listed landscape and still life painter Charles DeWolf Brownell (Connecticut/New York/Rhode Island; 1822 – 1909), titled Lyme, Connecticut, dated July 1860. The image depicts a small sketched sample of terrain, rendered in translucent, earthy colors. This painting is not visibly signed by the artist, but has provenance from Borghi Fine Art Gallery in Englewood, New Jersey. The painting is float-mounted within cream mat, under acrylic glass in a wood frame with a distressed gold leaf finish and a wire to the verso. A Borghi Gallery label is attached to the verso.
Condition
- light wear to painting, consistent with age. Finish of frame is intentionally distressed.
