Ricardo Morin Mixed Media Painting on Paper "Triangulation 37"

Item Details

An unframed mixed media painting on paper titled Triangulation 37 by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954), dated 2008. Comprised of body color, sanguine and sepia ink on paper this abstract geometric work is from the artist’s Triangulation drawings series that features similar paintings created in 2008. A large scalene triangle outlined in blue is painted on top of the composition and is completely filled with rows of smaller triangles outlined in white paint. Underneath the design of triangles are sweeping gestural brushstrokes, squiggles, and smears of brown and dark red paint haphazardly applied across the paper. The work is signed and dated in pencil to the lower right and it remains unframed.

Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
