Ca. 1896 The Diagraph Co. "Vulcan" Stencil Cutting Machine

Item Details

A ca. 1896 The Diagraph Co. Vulcan stencil cutting machine. This unusual tool is constructed from cast iron and features a rotating symbol-selecting wheel and a wooden lever for executing the punch action. The antique piece still retains much of its original paint, including red selecting dial, hand-painted gilt decorations and identifiers, such as ‘The Vulcan’ model indicator on the side of the wheel and a list of patent dates, the most recent of which is February of 1896. Next to the patent dates a brass plaque with ‘The Diagraph Co. Mfrs. / St. Louis, MO.’ and a list of products they deal in is attached to the machine. A final mark is stamped to the top of the machine and reads ‘V1333A’.
