An unframed mixed media painting on paper Silence III by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954), dated 2010. Comprised of watercolor, graphite, gesso, and acrylic on paper, this abstract geometric work is from the artist’s Silence series that features similar paintings created in 2010. A grid of triangles outlined in black paint is juxtaposed against a cloudy background filled with gray, blue, and purple watercolors bleeding into one another. Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
