A watercolor painting on paper titled On the Desolate Rainy Seas May 17, 1859 by listed American watercolorist Charles DeWolf Brownell (1822 – 1909), created in 1859. The painting depicts calm water under a calm sky. Titled and dated to the upper right corner, ‘On the Desolate Rainy Seas May 17 – 59’. Inscribed in the upper left is ‘Nat’. Presented behind glass in a gilt frame with white matting and a hanging wire to the verso. Accompanied by an exhibition catalog from Hirschl & Adler Galleries.
Condition
- minor to moderate surface markings to frame; several chunks of the gold tone surface of the frame are chipped of or lifting.
