A watercolor painting on paper titled South West from the Smelling-House by listed American watercolorist Charles DeWolf Brownell (1822 – 1909), created in 1857. The painting depicts a small palm tree in a landscape of rolling hills. Adhered to the verso is a clipped signature and inscription reading ‘S.W. from the smelling-house; yingu Pn. Francisco Xavier, Feb. 12th 1857.’ Gallery label on verso includes ‘Hirschl & Adler Galleries’ while accompanied by a catalog from their exhibition. Presented behind glass in a gilt frame with white matting and a hanging wire to the verso.
