Paul Chidlaw Original Watercolor Painting "Red Figures"

An original watercolor painting on paper by well regarded Cincinnati artist Paul Chidlaw (1900 – 1989). The painting depicts gesturally-painted figures in red, set against an abstracted watercolor background in paler shades of purple, blue, and green. The painting is signed in graphite to the lower right. It is matted in black and presented behind glass in a wooden frame with cast surface embellishments, gold tone finish, and a hanging wire. Chidlaw taught at both Our Lady of Cincinnati College (now part of Xavier University) and the Art Academy of Cincinnati from 1946 to 1963 where he was also a student from 1919 to 1923 before going on to study at L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Fountainbleu, France. Chidlaw’s art is highly revered and is displayed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University as well as many private collections.
