Nicholas Barbieri Mixed Media Diptych on Canvas "Stretch Time"
Item Details
An original oil and acrylic on canvas diptych titled Stretch Time by Nicholas Barbieri (American, 1942-2013), created in 2007. The painting features a large sweeping infinity sign separated onto two stretched canvases, rendered in hues of pink, red, and orange on a green background. The dripped pigments, gestural brushstrokes, and compulsive repetition displays a sense of controlled spontaneity. One of the canvases is signed, dated, and titled to the verso; additional handwriting to the verso reads ‘dyptych’.
Nicholas Barbieri is best known his use of repetitive circular motions in his abstract expressionist style paintings. He received his BFA with honors from Pratt Institute and continued his art education with a MFA at Lehman College. Barbieri’s exploration of the visual relationships and effects of light on form, structure, and space have evolved over his four decade career. He has participated in many solo and group exhibitions and has his work in many private collections including the Clock Tower Gallery, Empire State Building-5th Avenue Gallery, Hundred Acres Gallery, and in The Hudson River Museum.
