Lewis Painter Clephane Original Oil on Canvas "The Edge of the Pines"

An original oil painting on canvas by listed artist Lewis Painter Clephane (1869-1948) titled The Edge of the Pines. This scene, captured in Woodstock, New York, depicts tall pine trees, closely together as their collective leaves blot out much of the sun on the forest floor. Pine needles and leaves give the Earth a warm, autumnal hue, kissed by sunlight in small patches throughout the scene. Signed in paint to lower right, this painting is presented in an extraordinary gilt cast gesso frame with a beveled, rectangular base and beautiful interior accent border with a foliate motif. A small, wooden plaque is affixed to the frame with the artist’s name and title of the work. Hanging wire present to verso.
Condition
- to poor. Wear present to frame, including loss along ornate cast gesso accent border. Small tears present to canvas, including upper right and upper left corners. Paint loss present to tear at upper left corner as well. Significant amount of tape to verso used to mount the canvas in the frame.
