An oil painting on board titled Six Day by self-taught Buffalo-based artist John Schweikhard (b. 1938), dated 2001. This work features a crowd of people seated in an arena watching cyclists race around the track. One biker wearing a vibrant green shirt is depicted relatively close to the viewer, while others dissolve into faint impressions in the background. The artist captures a sense of movement in a fleeting moment with sweeping painterly brushstrokes and vibrant colors. Handwriting to the verso includes the artist, title, date, and reads ‘Bicycle Race International Marathon, Buffalo Artist,’ and other illegible writing. The work is signed in black to the lower left corner of the composition; it is presented in a gold-tone wood frame.
