An oil painting on board titled The Albatross by listed artist Raphael Ellender (1906 – 1972). Depicted is a beach setting with the form of an albatross appearing as a shadow rendered in dark tones. The sand creates a gradient changing from dark color to light until the blue water is reached. A nude woman lays on the sand face down referencing the superstition that albatross brings bad luck if harmed. The artist has signed ‘Ellender’ in yellow near the nude figure. This piece comes presented unframed and without hanging hardware. To the verso, two inscriptions with the title and artist’s name are present as well as labels from previous transactions.
