James Rosenquist Signed Limited Edition Lithographs "Idea I" and Idea II"

Item Details

A pair of pencil signed limited edition lithographs on wove paper with deckle edges titled Idea II and Idea I by American Pop artist James Rosenquist (b. 1933), created in 1979. The prints depict lightning bolts through a dark blue sky hitting the sole of a ladies pump and a man’s dress shoe. Idea II is number 32 in an edition of 83 and Idea I is number 28 in an edition of 76. Both pieces are numbered, titled, signed, and dated in pencil to the lower margin. Presented behind glass in wooden frames by Bark Frameworks LLC with custom white matting and a hanging wire to the verso.

A leading figure in the American Pop Art movement, Rosenquist is best known for his large scale oil paintings. His mother was an avid painter and encouraged her son’s interest in art. In 1952, he studied painting at the University of Minnesota and in 1955 studied at the Art Students League in New York. Like many in the Pop Art movement, Rosenquist began his career as a commercial artist painting billboards. Influenced by his background in commercial art, he would pull imagery from advertisements, periodicals, and other popular imagery. Rosenquist worked in a variety of mediums, including printing, painting, collage, and drawing. His works are held in a variety of public and private institutions, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and more.
