Oil Paintings on Copper With Ornate Italian Frames
Item Details
A pair of oil on copper copy paintings after well-listed Austrian painter Otto Karl Van Thoren (1828-1889). These oval works each depict two 19th century figures within a European landscape, with medieval follies in the background before distant rolling mountains. Each is signed ‘Van Thoren’ in white along the bottom. The paintings are presented in gilt wooden frames with carved scrolling acanthus leaf ornamentation, with loops for hanging.
Condition
- fair; one has a significant area of flaking paint at the bottom; water damage to the back of one frame.
