Rare Herbert Von Thaden Bent Plywood Lounge Chair Circa 1940s

A bent plywood lounge chair designed by Herbert Von Thaden in 1947. The chair was created from three sheets of molded veneered birch wood. The pieces of wood are secured together with brass hardware. A rare and excellent example of American Modernist design, Von Thaden’s chair is truly innovative. This design is in the collections of numerous museums, including the MOMA.

- scratches throughout; wear is consistent with age and use; weight sensitive due to the delicacy of the item.
