A first edition copy of The Great Buffalo Hunt by Wayne Gard. This copy is inscribed by the author. Constituting the greatest slaughter of animals ever, it been estimated that thirty-one million buffalo were killed between 1861 and 1881 with only 500 left by 1885. The book chronicles the extermination of buffalo by hunters and the Indians that saw the hunters as eliminating their sources of food, shelter and clothing. Superbly illustrated by Nick Eggenhofer, published in 1959 by Alfred A. Knopf.
