Arthur Helwig Painting of Champion Cat "Fu Manchu"
Item Details
A rather whimsical original painting on stretched canvas of a championship Persian cat by well noted Cincinnati artist Arthur Louis Helwig (American 1899-1976). Arthur Helwig was born in Cincinnati where he studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy with other well known artists Herman Wessel and John Weis. He also furthered his studies at both the Acadamies Julian and Modern in Paris. Back in Cincinnati he was a long standing member of The Cincinnati Art Club where he served as the president several times and also as a board member. Helwig exhibited across the country and in Europe, his lithographic work and his paintings are highly sought among collectors. This painting is titled ‘Champion S Premier Fu Manchu’, boldly illustrating the head and neck of a very furry and obviously impressive Persian cat with huge blue eyes. The artist’s signature in red is in the lower right corner and the painting is professionally framed with a brass plaque in the center stating both the cat and the artist’s names.
